You’ve tried numerous exercises, got a trainer, changed your diet, but still can’t get that beautifully toned, sculpted body. Sound familiar? If nothing seems to get rid of that stubborn fat, no matter how much you try, you might have considered liposuction or other forms of body contouring to help you out. There are MANY different modalities, products, procedures, treatments, and levels of care regarding this arena so we understand the confusion!

LIPOSUCTION VS. LASER LIPOSUCTION

Most people think that both liposuction and laser liposuction are invasive cosmetic procedures. This is far from the truth. Laser liposuction is a non-invasive service done at a salon that uses a laser beam and heat to shrink and melt the fat deposits under our skin. Liposuction is an actual surgical procedure performed most times by a board-certified dermatologic or cosmetic surgeon.

TRADITIONAL LIPOSUCTION

Traditional liposuction is performed under anesthesia. It mainly involves the insertion of large cannulas that suck the stubborn fat out of the body permanently. As large cannulas or tubes have to be inserted into our body, the surgeon will make incisions in the areas where the fat needs to be removed. This can cause bleeding and tissue damage that can take weeks to heal completely.

Moreover, in traditional liposuction, high-frequency vibrations or a water jet is used to loosen the fat deposits that surround the cells, tissues, and muscles. The risks of this procedure involve tissue damage, internal bleeding, and infections. After the surgery, which usually lasts for up to 3 hours, the patient’s body will have many cuts and bruises.

The areas where the surgery has been performed can remain swollen for a week or more. The patient is kept under observation for a day or two because after the surgery, as they are unable to walk back home.

HOW IS LASER LIPOSUCTION DIFFERENT?

Unlike traditional liposuction, laser liposuction is non-invasive and painless.

Laser liposuction is used to target specific areas in the body where fat removal is difficult, such as the hips, thighs, and stomach. Pads that have laser diodes attached to them are placed on the area that requires laser liposuction. The laser beam and heat that emits from these diodes penetrate deep into the skin cells and melts the stubborn fat. The melted stubborn fat then naturally drains out of the body through the lymphatic system.

Moreover, when it comes to the sculpting and contouring of the body, laser liposuction has proven to be effective on most body types because the collagen that is produced after the treatment tightens the skin on the treated area and makes it appear firmer and more toned. However, unlike traditional liposuction, the client will need to have laser lipo multiple times to see optimal results.

Laser lips is also not intended for morbidly or obese individuals. The ideal clients will be overweight, generally no more than 30lbs. It can be done on most people, however, the lasers do not penetrate that deep into the skin to solve severe overweight issues.

LIPOSUCTION VS. LASER LIPOSUCTION: WHICH IS BETTER?

So, if we were to present our verdict on which is better, liposuction vs. laser liposuction, it’s impossible to say as each individual has a unique need. Not everyone would benefit from laser lipo and not everyone is a candidate for liposuction. Its important to do your research first and consult with the individual doing the service/proceedure, to make sure it’s the best fit. If you can avoid surgury that is always a plus, but, unfortunately, some people cannot and they need to be support on that decision.
